Border Tour: Russian Attack Helicopter Flew Over Me In New Mexico

While I was driving through New Mexico on my border crisis tour, I stopped to snap photos at a ghost town with my new Nikon D850.

As I was taking photos, a Russian attack helicopter flew over me. I didn’t know it was Russian at the time as I couldn’t see the lettering on the side until I looked at the photos on my laptop later.

The ghost town I was at is an old mining town called Steins in Hildalgo County, NM.

The Russian word on the tail of the helicopter, "опасно," means “danger.” When I realized it was a Russian word I immediately wondered if we weren’t training Ukrainians to use the helicopters.

I queried people on my social media accounts and a follower sent over an article from the National Interest about our military using the helicopters in training missions. The helo is a Russian “Hind.”

National Interest reported “A U.S. Air Force rescue-helicopter squadron in November 2019 flew mock battles against a fearsome enemy. Soviet-designed Mil Mi-24 Hind attack helicopters.”

The war game over Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona helped to prepare the base’s resident 55th Rescue Squadron for intensive warfare that could involved helicopter-on-helicopter combat.

Two Mi-24s deployed to Davis-Monthan for the training. Official Air Force photos depict the heavyweight, twin-seat ‘copters flying low over the desert and sharing a hangar with one of the 55th Rescue Squadron’s Sikorsky HH-60G Pave Hawk rescue helicopters.

U.S. forces have owned and hired Hinds since at least the early 1990s, when the fall of the Soviet Union made it easier to acquire the helicopters. Two military-owned Mi-24s reportedly reside at Nellis Air Force Base in California.

I talked to my buddy, triple-amputee vet Brian Kolfage who was in the Air Force. He said that our AF trains our allies on U.S. soil. I was just curious if we are training Ukrainians, what does that mean for the proxy war the moron Joe Biden has us fighting against Russia?
