The second destination of my border crisis tour landed me right near El Paso, in Sunland Park, NM, where We Build the Wall put up its first border wall under the direction of triple-amputee vet Brian Kolfage and Steve Bannon. I was the videographer for the project and filmed construction through to completion.

Here’s a drone shot I took right after I arrived a few days ago.

After stopping to film the crisis in Yuma, Arizona (500-800 migrants crossing per day with the cartels assisting them where I was), I wanted to hit up my old hunting grounds and see how the wall was doing.

Border crossings in this area are much different than in Yuma. Border Patrol agents tell me that there is no one spot where hundreds come over at a time. The cartels send over a few here and there to distract BP, then they send the important people over in another area.

The people crossing here don’t give themselves up and don’t want to be caught, according to the BP agents I spoke to. Many are criminals who want to stay off the radar and out of prison. Many of these are involved in drug and sex trafficking.

The few nights I stayed at this wall, there were crossers near it. Some didn’t want to be caught.

Others wanted to cross but didn’t. Below is the WBTW wall where I camped, and a few people who were looking to cross.

Border Patrol was always nearby to dissuade them, though.

Steve Bannon, who was on the board of We Build the Wall, had me on his show to discuss what I’d seen in Yuma and other places and how cartels are expanding in power and influence in the U.S.

I’m currently heading to Eagle Pass, TX where things are apparently hotter than Yuma in terms of cartel activity. I’ll be filming there for a few days once I arrive.
